Bogoroditse Devo was originally composed by Rachmaninoff in 1915 as part of a larger choral work, the All-Night Vigil. The text in English, Hail Mary, also often set in Latin as Ave Maria is a religious text from the Russian Orthodox church. This setting of Rachmaninoff's Bogoroditse Devo for flute choir shifts the work into a higher key to make it more accessible without requiring multiple lower flutes. It is set for one piccolo (optional, doubles flute 1 up an octave), 5 C flutes, alto flute, bass flute, and optional contrabass flute (largely doubles bass flute) or second bass flute.
