WILD FLOWER (SATB + piano and narrator)
Jean Saladino's final concert with the Viterbo University Concert Choir was May 1, 2016 in Maria Angelorum Chapel at St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I wanted to write something very special to emulate Jean's vibrant spirit and the youthful exuberance of our students, so chose Marci Madary's WILD FLOWER poem as a fitting text for a dedicatory piece in honor of Jean and the Viterbo University Concert Choir. --Mary Ellen Haupert
"WILD FLOWER"
by Marci Madary
I have never aspired to be a fireman or an astronaut or the president.
I have always wanted to be a Wild Flower.
A wild flower with vibrant color, unkempt leaves,
Strong and independent with unpredictable patterns.
Im not particular; all wild flowers are unique and lovely,
Somehow more amazing when surrounded by others.
This is what I want: to be free to grow,
Rejoicing in both sun and rain.
And someday when I wake up,
I will look into a mirrored woman both ordinary and unique Independent with others tender and strong but always, always wild.
