Six delightfully melodic songs of the 1790s by this prolific English composer, arranged from the original melody and bass for SATB recorders. Each instrument is kept busy, with the responsibility for Hook's favourite Alberti bass falling firmly on the fingers and patience of the tenor and bass recorders. There are a few virtuoso passages for the soprano in imitation of bird song, and in the last song particularly I have totally changed the original harmonies. The six songs are: 1. The Lass of Richmond Hill ; 2. The Blackbird; 3. Hush Ev'ry Breeze; 4. The Thrush; 5. Within a Mile of Edinboro' Town; 6. May Morning.
