Inspired by the Dylan Thomas poem "The hand that signed the paper", I attempted to compose music that was theatrical with a sense of the medieval. While the "five kings" in the Thomas poem represent the fingers on the hand of an oppressive ruler, for me, the five kings represent the five players of a brass quintet.
