This simple tune by Philip P. Bliss, the prominent gospel tune writer of the late 1800s, was originally for children to sing, but its all-inclusive character and energy has appealed to adults for generations. It appeared in the 1936 hymnal my church used when I was a boy in the 1950s, and we sang it often. Any tune of a simple nature has unlimited potential for variation, so don't be surprised by the jazz harmonies in my arrangement for two flutes and piano. I even threw in a bit of jazz waltz. In church?? Why not? Jesus likes jazz!
