One of Gesualdo's most famous madrigals, adapted for 5 violas! The dark, mellow timbre of the viola is well-suited to the melancholy chromatic harmonies Gesualdo often uses. Viola 1 requires use of 3rd position to reach the highest notes, while the Viola 5 part uses scordatura, tuning G and C down to E and A to reach the lowest notes required by this piece.
