In 2017 I was invited to give a concert at the Newcastle Art Gallery (Australia) to celebrate an outstanding exhibition that consisted of Australian paintings from the Gallerys own collection. Borrowing from the idea of Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition', this suite was composed in response to a selection of those paintings as follows:
Shoalhaven River Afternoon (Arthur Boyd); Summer Storm (Emily Kngwarreye); E.U.R. 1 (Jeffrey Smart); The Crow Trap (Russell Drysdale); Easter Show (Sidney Nolan); Grace (Hilda Rix Nicholas); King Sun and the Hunter (John Olsen) and Summer at Carcour (Brett Whiteley). The Suite was premiered at the concert, with the composer (violin) accompanied by pianist Peter Guy (piano).
This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
