Labour and Love (1913) by Percy E. Fletcher was originally scored for a British brass band. This included an Eb soprano cornet, 4 Bb cornet parts (with a fluegel horn double in one part), 4 Eb tenor horn parts, 2 Bb baritone parts, euphonium, 2 tenor trombone parts, bass trombone, an Eb bass part and a Bb bass part. All the parts excepting the trombones were written in treble clef.
This arrangement, while attempting to preserve the original style and flavor, has been adapted for the contemporary American brass ensemble. The few alterations in the scoring were necessitated by the difference in orchestration and the adaption of what was previously a primarily conical bore ensemble to one that is evenly mixed between conical and cylindrical bores.
