A well known theme by Edvard Grieg "In the Hall of the Mountain King" has been designed to function as a solo unaccompanied clarinet solo. Following the theme are 4 different original variations in different characters in the same key. They are of different difficulties and increase in difficulty resulting in the brilliant finale variation with the theme elaborated. This makes perfect sense because the original orchestral work repeats several times and gradually accels! The idea of the variations on the theme is influenced by Eyck's Fluyten Lusthof, a famous collection of theme and variations. This is Jeffs second unaccompanied theme and variations on a well-known melody. Duration is about 3:45 minutes. Perfect quick encore.
