A familiar song or tune is one of the best way to introduce a modern or at least unfamiliar way of playing the piano. Here is a spritely carol with a very specific set of musical parameters that belies its flowing sound. The right hand melody, so familiar to many of us, with its melismatic phrases, is set in fifths and fourths ONLY. the accompaniment, in the left hand bass, is octaves and fifths, filled in at the top of the bottom with a whole step. A very restricted set of materials, yet they complement the song in its simplicity and verve. This arrangement is NOT as suitable for vocal accompaniment as the others in the series. Melismas in 5ths, not easy to sing along with. But, fun to play! MBB
