This trio for two violins and bass was written for a group of ninth grade students who had all been playing for one year. About 3 minutes in length, the piece evokes a winter's day, from the gentle morning and stirring of a storm to a raging blizzard. The parts do not stray from first position and contain simple rhythms that should allow players to concentrate on the expressive elements, such as wide ranging dynamics, staccato and legato bow strokes, and some contemporary harmonies.
