"Air for the Savages" is a rondo first composed by Rameau in 1725 as part of his opera "Les Indes galantes". He later reused the piece in orchestral and keyboard suites. The reason for the works popularity can be discerned instantly upon hearing the invigorating rhythmic motifs that drive the rondo to its conclusion. This arrangement for flute, viola and cello is loads of fun for the musicians and audience. It makes a great encore for a trio recital or a great wedding recessional-provided the mother of the bride has a sense of humour about the title!
