Product Description

Transcribed from Glenn Goulds 1981 recording.

The Goldberg Variations is the 1955 debut album of Canadian classical pianist Glenn Gould. An interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) launched Gould's career as a renowned international pianist, and became one of the most well-known piano recordings.  Gould made another recording of the "Goldberg" in 1981, the year before his early death at 50, "leaving the two Bach statements as bookends to his career," writes Michael Cooper at The New York Times.
Known for being a specialist in Bachs interpreter,  he described Bach as "first and last an architect, a constructor of sound, and what makes him so inestimably valuable to us is that he was beyond a doubt the greatest architect of sound who ever lived."
