Dreaming is an elementary-level piano solo that I teach to students once they can easily play five-finger scales. Its built on a 5-note whole tone scale and uses the damper pedal throughout to give it a dreamy quality.
My students who play this piece havent necessarily learned to read the notes above the treble staff yet, so I give them the image of the hand position to make sure they dont get lost when theyre home practicing on their own.
Students tend to use a combination of rote and reading when I have them learn this piece. It sounds harder than the pieces they typically play at this level, and they love that.
