Creating Jazz Phrases is the third part of the study, "Jazz, The Language of Music." It illustrates how one can develop their own phrases in jazz. Most student musicians have been taught to transcribe recordings of their favorite players. This is a very good way to start but eventually one must learn to create their own "licks" so as not to become repetitive and imitative in their performance. Creating your own phrases can become very rewarding and will be the key to developing your own style of improvisation.
