This Minuet forms the slow section of the Overture from Handel's opera Berenice, first performed in Covent Garden, London in 1737. Despite the opera being unsuccessful at the time, the minuet achieved its own popularity and has remained a popular request at weddings to this day. There are many piano arrangements available of this music, but this version, accurately transcribed by professional pianist Mark Reeves, is based closely on the composer's original music scored for strings, oboes and continuo. Handel's minimal orchestration (a copy of the score is included for reference in this digital download) translates to a simple piano transcription suitable for piano/keyboard players of Early Intermediate ability. Players unfamiliar with the music's original key of E flat major might be more comfortable playing the C major version which is included in the price (the digital download consists of an arrangement of the Minuet in E flat major, the same arrangement in C major and a copy of the original orchestrated score). Electronic keyboard players can achieve an authentic Baroque sound by using a combination of voices such as strings and harpsichord.About the ArrangerMark Reeves is a professional pianist, piano teacher and music arranger with years of experience.
