"Dance of the Blessed Spirits" appears in the second act of Gluck's monumental opera "Orpheus and Eurydice". Written in a minuet form, the solo flute part is one of the most memorable melodies in the literature. Set in the "Elysium Fields", the dance is both tranquil and melancholy (they are, after all dead). I have added an obligato alto part with the flute which, I think, gives it more of a contemplative quality. I hope you do, too.
