This overture is so called because It is based largely on two Irish tunes -"The Donegal Reel" and "Star of the County Down".A highly skillful and polished orchestration, with great tunes, color, exuberance and variety, it is an ideal choice for a concert featuring Irish music. The reel opens and closes the piece with a triumphant version of "Star of the County Down" in the middle. The mood is up-beat throughout and it would also be appropriate as an opening concert item. Slightly challenging in places, it is suitable however for a competent student or amateur orchestra. A highly entertaining piece! (Duration 4:00)
