Originally commissioned by cellist Marty Steinberg as an encore for a performance with clarinetist Mitch Sturman at a concert in Philadelphia at Congregation Beth 'El given on November 4, 2018, the piece has been re-scored for clarinet and bassoon. The three tunes are "Long live the nigun," "Bublitschki," and "Hopke"
In "Long live the nigun" ("nigun" meaning "tune"), the melody is evenly split between clarinet and bassoon.
The popular "Bublitschki" ("bagels") is presented in a quasi canonic form, each restatement being slightly varied.
"Hopke" (literally "hop") is a fast dance culturally derived from the hopak. The bassoon carries the entire melody with clarinet accompaniment.
