What Wondrous Love Is This is arranged here for an intermediate piano solo. This American Christian hymn is taken from William Walker's Southern Harmony (1835), a shape note hymnal. The lyrics of the hymn were first published in 1811 and the melody is older with sources referring to various origins. Each of the four iterations builds on the melody and seeks to replicate musically the meaning of the lyrics which are particularly appropriate for Lent and Easter.
