Stranger on the Shore was a huge hit for British clarinettist Acker Bilk back in the 60s and remains the most popular and requested melody for that instrument. But this piece sounds good on any instrument and this version is arranged as a duet for two Violins.
Musicians at all levels from an easy intermediate standard upwards will find this a popular repertoire piece for both formal and informal concert performances, with plenty of interest and variety in both parts. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. The short audio sample is from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version while the full length youtube performance is the version for two Clarinets..
Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to teach ensemble playing and talking about tone quality. There is plenty of opportunity for expression and a wide pitch range is used. Comparisons with the original recording will open up opportunities to discuss vibrato and other expressive techniques.
