Orpheus in the Underworld and Orpheus in Hell are English names for Orphée aux enfers, a comic opera with music by Jacques Offenbach and words by Hector Crémieux and Ludovic Halévy.This arrangement is of The best-known and much-recorded Orphée aux enfers overture which is not by Offenbach, and is not part of either the 1858 or the 1874 scores. It was arranged by the Austrian musician Carl Binder (18161860) for the first production of the opera in Vienna, in 1860In the last decade of the 19th century the Paris cabarets the Moulin Rouge and Folies Bergère adopted the music of the "Galop infernal" from the culminating scene of the opera to accompany the can-can, and ever since then the tune has been popularly associated with the dance.This music also appears at the end of the overture.Arranged double wind quintet/bassClarinets in Bb provided in addition to Clts in A
