GigueThe Sonatine for Two Like Saxophones is dedicated to the memory of Germaine Tailleferreand is especially influenced by her Sonata for Solo Clarinet, a work in which she exploredatonal language. It may be played on any two saxophones of the same type (ie two sopranosaxophones in Bb, two baritone saxophones in Eb etc).The work is in three movements. The first, « Invention », uses a strict contrapunctaltreatment of a theme in fourths. The Second, « Arioso », is a slow lyric dance in ¾. TheThird movement, « Gigue », is based on a « hunting horn » motif which also exploits the useof 6/8 superimposed on ¾.
