Product Description

I. Invention
II. Arioso
III. Gigue

The Sonatine for Two Like Saxophones is dedicated to the memory of Germaine Tailleferre
and is especially influenced by her Sonata for Solo Clarinet, a work in which she explored
atonal language. It may be played on any two saxophones of the same type (ie two soprano
saxophones in Bb, two baritone saxophones in Eb etc).

The work is in three movements. The first, « Invention », uses a strict contrapunctal
treatment of a theme in fourths. The Second, « Arioso », is a slow lyric dance in ¾. The
Third movement, « Gigue », is based on a « hunting horn » motif which also exploits the use
of 6/8 superimposed on ¾.
