"Ben" is a song written by Donald Black and Walter Scharf, recorded in 1972 by American singer Michael Jackson, then a teenager for the Motown label. The hit, written for Donny Osmond, and offered to Jackson due to Osmond's unavailability, touring at the time, spent a week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, major American pop chart. The single also peaked at number one on the Australian pop chart, where it spent eight weeks. It became the first of Jackson's 12 hits to hit the top of the US charts, and was his first ever to do so as a solo artist.
