This book contains 12 etudes and 23 exercises for Jazz piano. It is designed for intermediate to advanced level of Jazz pianists. This book will help you to build an advanced complete system of playing Jazz. The included CD contains all of the etudes and exercises. Each Etude is a complete musical piece that can be performed in a concert. This book contains etudes written in all 12 keys to help the pianist develop tonal freedom and modulation technique. The group of two exercises followed by the concert etude should be practiced together. The material of the exercises is used in the etude that follows them. There are two main groups of exercises in this book- chord exercises that move chord structures through the keys, and motive exercises that develop and refine the building material for solos. The main rhythmical block for playing Jazz is swinging eighth notes. The written dotted eighth and sixteenth are actually equal to an eighth-note triplet in which the first two notes are tied together. This means when there is a triplet in the Right Hand and a written dotted eighth and sixteenth in the Left Hand- their first and last notes should be played together. Each musical example should be practiced until it can be played extremely well. All of the Etudes and Exercises in this book should be looked upon as a starting point to develop a more original style and advance the pianists technique.Cover Art by Ashleigh DeLong
