Five-minute theme and variations on Joseph Barnsby's hymn, "May Jesus Christ Be Praised." Great to play before a church service. In the process of making several longer, nocturne-style arrangements of hymns having to do with evening that were perfect for pianists to play before evening church services, I realized that it might be a good idea to come up with a longer piece that would work as a prelude for a morning service. What hymns are there that talk about the morning? Well, with its first line of "When morning gilds the skies," this hymn naturally came to mind. Wanting the arrangement to last a while, I wrote it in a "theme and variations" style, looking to the excellent examples of those works composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and Sergei Rachmaninoff for inspiration. I hope this piece is a blessing to you!
