"Twitching Hour" is a snare drum solo of intermediate-advanced difficulty, inspired by the works of Steve Reich and Casey Cangelosi. This deceptively difficult solo utilizes many different colors and timbres of the snare drum with as few implements as possible. All you need is the sticks and the drum.In most orchestral snare drum solos and excerpts, both hands work together to create one line of music. On the contrary, this solo has both hands working independently from one another. While one hand plays a consistent, unchanging pattern, the other hand creates a sort of rhythmic counterpoint, evoking an unstable (or "twitchy") feel. If the audience can't clap along, you're doing it right."Twitching Hour" is an engaging, contemporary solo of indeterminate length that will fit into any high school or college recital program!
