The melancholy tone of the bassoon evokes the yearning quality in the blues as if the instrument is dipping in a reedy toe to see if it can venture further. It is dedicated to the memory of Professor Hank Marr who urged me to learn the blues scales. This is the chamber orchestra version of the original accompaniment for concerrt band.
