Altura de Quintero es una colina situada al oeste de Santiago de Cuba. En 1979, haciendo alusión a este detalle y, de cierto modo recordando al compositor que creó el primer Danzón, Alturas de Simpson, situadas en la ciudad de Matanzas, en el siglo XIX (Miguel Faílde) creé este Danzón. Da la casualidad que yo estaba tocando en un Motel (Rancho Club) que estaba situado en ese lugar. Es un típico Danzón con toda su estructura: Dos melodías alternadas con un Estribillo y un Montuno final en Cha Cha Cha. Danzón puro.
