This is a setting of Mendelssohn's wonderful tune and mostly retains his harmonisation too. The melody line is prominently played by the flute, and some optional mallet percussion is decorative to the ensemble with the harp/piano part. The melody is so well known but seldom gets an airing just for its own sake, therefore this particular arrangement has some added variations and decorative passages that add to its classical flavour in a positive way. It is set in the same key as the Oxford green Carol book, therefore is quite suitable for a gentle singalong. Enjoy playing this arrangement and let me know if you like it, because I certainly still enjoy playing all these wonderful melodies until the festive season concludes.
