Sound Of Music, The- for Clarinet Quartet. The Sound of Music is the opening title song from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music and later the 1965 film. Its sung by Maria as she stands on an Austrian hillside, expressing the joy, freedom, and spiritual uplift she feels in nature. This arrangement opens with the verse using an echo effect. The melody stays primarily in the 1st Clarinet part, but the answers are woven in and out of the other parts. The bridge uses piu mosso, rit. and meno mosso to great effect. The song modulates as a final gesture while broadening out its tempo. Approximately 3:20. Intermediate level. Check out other arrangements in this series of songs from The Sound Of Music: Climb Evry Mountain, My Favorite Things, The Sound Of Music and Edelweiss.
