Les Falles 27An extended Trumpet solo begins the piece, introducing two-step dance music with rich harmonies overlaid by embellishments in solo Piccolo; not a march as such, but played at 120 BPM. The music gains speed and goes into a faster two-step at 132 BPM. Due to the varied musical content, the piece clocks in at 4:15, a bit longer than a standard march but still in keeping with its purpose. Les FallesThis piece is one of over 100 I composed in honor of my favorite festival, Les Falles. Several different regional traditions are brought together in this festival. One is that groups of falleras and falleros walk through the streets of Valencia accompanied by a small marching band, carrying elaborate bouquets to the Plaza de la Virgen. But the numerous neighborhood associations don't have their own songs to play as they walk. I aim to correct that with this series of pieces. They are meant to fit in with the traditional music of the region and to support street dancing in the style of the place. Most of them are marches or pasodobles, but some are 6/8 marches or waltzes. The first 4 of these were composed in situ, the next two on the flight back to the US, and the rest over the course of the following months.
