Probably one of the most beautiful melodies ever written, the tune "Greensleeves" is of 16th century English origin. When paired with the tender words of the Christmas carol "What Child Is This?," it can sound like heaven on earth! My intermediate arrangement of this carol is in the key of E minor with a duration of 3 minutes and four pages long. There is no key change. I play it "dolce," as sweetly as I can, for our Christmas Eve service. Don't let the left hand scare you with the running 16th notes. With a little practice, you will find that it loosely follows the E minor arpeggio in several places. It does have a forte climax (not heard on the excerpt), but it comes back to the ethereal beginning eventually. Grandma gets teary-eyed, in a good way, every time she hears me play this tune.
