Product Description

Composed in 1801 · Beethoven 30 years old

Beethoven was living an impossible love for his young student, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi, while his deafness quietly began to progress. Amid this emotional turmoil, he composed a free and melancholic sonata, pouring into the music his intimate longing and growing sense of isolation.

The name Moonlight came later, inspired by a poet who saw in this music the silvery reflection of a calm lake. Though Beethoven never called it that, the nickname captured its spirita silent confession, woven with tenderness and melancholy, that still enchants those who listen.
