Format is 8.5 X 11 (Letter Size) for parts and score. 11 X17 (Tabloid & Legal) formatted scores are also available. One Good Turn is an arrangement I did for the Erroll Garner estate to help promote some of his lesser known works. The composition was a natural for a big band, swing arrangement. Think Count Basie when performing this with close attention to dynamics, a trademark of the Basie band. This is a perfect opener for any concert or gig with two short solos for alto and trumpet. Lead trumpet goes up to D above high C (D6) and trombone to Ab above the staff (Ab5). The Freddie Green guitar really helps to lock in the groove and be sure not to play this too fast even though Buddy Rich liked to notch it up as was his habit.Ive found it really adds to the excitement of the piece when exaggerating the dynamics leading up to the key change, really pump up the volume at 85.
