This melancholy song from The Nightmare Before Christmas is perfect for the beginning cellist. It is in the original key of E minor and can be played entirely in first position. From a teaching perspective, it can be used to reinforce 2nd fingers and a few -1 extensions, as well as rhythm with time signature changes from 2/4 to 4/4 to 5/4. The piano part is a true accompaniment and only doubles the melody sparsely for support and intonation help. This piece is sure to keep students engaged this fall!
