Good Christian Men, Rejoice (In dulci jubilo) is a traditional Christmas carol of humble beginnings in the 14th century. This little tune emerged, somewhat secretively Id say, as a Latin tune with some German vernacular text thrown in by a guy who claimed a vision of angels singing and dancing in celebration of the Nativity. A couple of hundred years later an English composer set this tune as an anthem entitled: A Very Ancient German Christmas Carol with the opening text In dulci jubilo, let us our homage show. Fast forward another hundred-years-plus and all Latin words were completely deleted; and a couple years later still, we arrive to the most popular translation of In dulci jubilo now Good Christian men, rejoice. This 21st century arrangement is scored for 4-part SATB ensemble to be performed a cappella. Performance time: 3:30. It has the original Latin-German text and the current most widely accepted English text of Anglican priest John Mason Neale.
