Aria e Giga is a two-movement composition based on themes by Georg Friedrich Händel. I wrote it, along with several other works, for students enrolled in my two-year Masters Program in Crossover Double Bass at the Como Conservatory of Music, Italy. The accompaniment has been conceived for guitar. While my original intention was to involve students from the Conservatorys Jazz Departmenthence the preference for electric guitarthe part can also be effectively performed on classical guitar. As is often the case in my course, the piece calls for some improvisational skills. The central section of the Aria was specifically designed with this purpose in mind, and there is also space for the guitarist to contribute improvisational passages, should the opportunity arise.
