This beginner to intermmediate solo flute piece offers a combination of atonality, expression and playability, withouth forsaking both playfulness and emotion. The concept of this piece is the journey that a thought takes through the mind. The opening section portrays isolated thoughts, as though drops of water that enter the mind. One recurring thought that keeps "popping up" is the 4 staccato eighth notes, as though it were something that the mind couldn't shake, but keeps presenting itself. The next section with the A tonal center represents the trips or daydreams the mind goes on, in order to relieve it of the burden of tired thoughts. The section that starts at measure 67 asks "what does this all mean?" And, finally, comes the return of the drops of thought and the dramatic conclusion which represents thoughts put into action.
