The jazz standard "Ain't Misbehavin'" is a stride/early swing song written by Thomas "Fats" Waller and Harry Brooks with lyrics by Andy Razaf. It first appeared in the Broadway musical comedy Connie's Hot Chocolates in 1929. Later that year it transferred to the Hudson Theatre where Louis Armstrong was band leader. His performance was so well received that the trumpeter was asked to climb out of the orchestra pit and play the piece on stage. By the end of 1929 it had been recorded six times by various bands and its popularity has scarcely waned over the years with numerous arrangements in a variety of genres, including a country version by Hank Williams Jr which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles in 1985.Aint Misbehavin has also appeared many times in film, notably in Stormy Weather (1943) performed by Fats Waller and Atlantic City the following year sung by Louis Armstrong. An instrumental version is heard in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby of 2013. This arrangement for String Quartet is inspired by the recording cut on 23rd January 1943 by Fats Waller and his Rhythm. It should be suitable for intermediate players and is approx 3 minutes 20 seconds long. Score and parts in PDF format.
