"Orion" was wrtten for the world-renowned Eastman Trombone Choir and scored for 22 players - 16 tenor trombones, 5 bass trombones and one contrabass trombone. Since I was a teenager, I have looked forward to seeing the constellation Orion in the winter months (or summer months for those in the Southern Hemisphere). "Orion" is an unabashed homage to that constellation, with the 22 parts reflecting the 22 or so stars that make up the complete constellation in detailed star maps. Throughout the piece two musical elements allude to the seven brightest stars, with a majestic closing that weaves them together. The combined effects of its musical and spatial elements make "Orion" a sonic treat for players and audiences. Performance time it 5:08. Difficulty is Medium-Advanced. Member, ASCAP. --PFS
