From Tempo Vero Editions Classical Repertoire: Late Romantic MastersThis edition of Rachmaninoffs Élégie, Op. 3, No. 1 has been carefully edited to improve readability through reduced ledger lines, selective use of 1st/2nd endings to minimize repetition, and subtle layout adjustments for clarity, while maintaining fidelity to the original score.Composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff in 1892, Élégie was originally part of his collection Morceaux de fantaisie.Editorial NoteIn the second beat of measure 90, Rachmaninoff originally wrote a G-flat in the upper voice, keeping it as part of the melodic line. But in the first published edition, the note was changed to a G-natural -- likely by an engraver who assumed the harmony remained an E-flat major seventh chord throughout the measure. That change carried over into many later editions and has influenced how the piece is often performed. This edition restores the original G-flat.Browse the complete Tempo Vero Editions catalog of masterworks refined for modern pianists: https://tempoveroeditions.com/classical-pianoAudio sample by German Kitkin, 2024, under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license on IMSLP.License: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode
