This short arrangement of the well-known tango is an intermediate level piano solo, which would be great for school concerts or festivals. The title translates as "by a head", which refers to a horse narrowly winning (or losing) a race by the length of its head. The lyrics are about a compulsive horse-track gambler drawing parallels between gambling and love. It has been used in many films and adverts and is often heard in its instrumental arrangements, usually featuring violin on the main melody. This arrangement contains two verses and two choruses of the song, with slight variations in the second hearing of each. It's short enough not to be too daunting to intermediate students. The main challenges will be the accidentals and key changes, and finding the right style. There are a few octave stretches, which can be omitted for players with smaller hands. The tango style allows for some really dramatic playing, which lots of students will enjoy, and it is a tune that most people will recognise.
