The fifth piece from a collection of 18 intermediate studies for piano solo. This is another waltz/lullaby that perfectly captures the world of the fairy tale. The music starts with a simple statement, declaring to the listener: "A long time ago, in a far away land..."It starts out sweetly, but all too soon the mood of the music shifts as the difficulties are encountered: A poisoned spinning wheel, a sword in a stone, a maiden in a tower with no door, giants descending beanstalks. Once the obstacle is overcome and the goal is achieved, the music returns to the opening statement as if to say "...and they lived happily ever after."
