Prokofiev's flute sonata was written during 1942 and 1944.It was premiered in Moscow by Nicolai Kharkovsky and Sviatoslav Richter.During this time he was also composing his ballet "Cinderella" A year later a violin and piano version was transcribed by Prokoviev and violinist David Oistrakh.In this edition the third movment is arranged for two flutes and pianoand is suitable for advanced flutists.
