These six pieces by Brahms, Op. 118, are the fifth group in a series of 30 individual arrangements Christopher Kies has made for violin and piano from among the complete shorter works of Brahms for piano. The other groups of available arrangements are Opus 10, No. 2 and 4, Opus 76, 116, 117, and 119 complete. Brahms' shorter works for piano are considered to be among his most inspired creations. These six pieces make excellent companions to his three original sonatas for violin and piano. The violin parts have been given bowings and fingerings by Boston area violinist, Paul MacDowell. The two excerpts in the sample audio (No. 2 and 3) are taken from a live performance. These pieces are well suited to both advanced-intermediate players and professionals alike. Inquiries about these or other arrangements or compositions by Christopher Kies may be directed to christopherkies.com.
