Trauma is something we all experience at some point in life, and it comes in many different forms that are different for each person. How we handle and heal from that trauma is how we grow as people. Some people journal, some draw, some need to talk to someone, and some dont even do anything. I translate those feelings into music. This piece takes the listener through different stages when experiencing something traumatic. It starts off slow, like the calm of the storm, and is very tonal and written in a major key. As the piece progress you start to get a feeling of pain. This feeling can take form in a few different ways. Musically it takes the form of a minor key, faster tempo, meter changes, and different rhythmic interjections. By the end we start to see the musical melodies change into a calmer tone, but that pain never really goes away. Thats what trauma can do to a person, change them.Premiere April 3rd, 2025 by West Chester University Of Pennsylvania Trilovati Flute Ensemble.
