Imagine if you were listening to 'Scheherezade' by Rimsky-Korsakov and the recording kept skipping about, merging with other bits of the piece from later on and zipping back and forth; this is the idea behind 'Schehe-remix'. Based on the concept suggested by 'Impercynations' by Steven Bryant, 'Schehe-remix' is a tongue-in-cheek swipe at the romantic music of the original, even including a jazzy solo for soprano saxophone in the middle! The overlapping lines, changing meters and little repeated snatches make this piece fun to work on and hopefully will raise a smile from your audience and players, even though it may be a slightly bemused one. Scored for massive symphonic band, it is sensitively cross-cued throughout to allow smaller ensembles to enjoy it as well.
