Product Description
This is a collection of 24 tunes that were popular several generations ago, hence the descriptor "Erstwhile Familiar". The adaptations are for piano students in their first two years of study. Most of the pieces are to be played by one student alone, but several are set to be played by either two players or three players together. There are ample suggestions for fingerings to be used, and every effort has been made to keep lateral hand movements to a minimum. Some of the pieces are just for one hand at a time. The rhythms and intervals are quite simple, but the tunes are so charming and fresh sounding, even today, that any student will enjoy playing them. It may be that some of these tunes have fallen from general popularity, but they all deserve to be brought back to life. The audio sample, created using Aria Player within Finale software, is that of three of the pieces, numbers 1, 3, and 7b (The Caissons Go Rolling Along for duet, The Elephant from Carnival of the Animals for piano six-hands, and Home, Home on the Range for duet.
