It features standard 17-piece big band instrumentation, with optional flute doubles for Alto 2 and Tenor 2. It is Ideal for an intermediate/advanced high school jazz band. The piece opens with a soulful brass chorale treatment (Alla Closer Walk With Thee). It transitions into a vibrant second-line street parade groove driven by the baritone sax. The wind players (or the audience!) can sing the song once through or the guitarist can shine with a solo. The rhythm section provides a funky accompaniment with a Professor Longhair-inspired piano part. Then the brass takes the lead and is joined by saxes playing impressive pyrotechnic lines.
